Smokin Silvers!
They're Here! Fishing has been very good this week with easy limits of early 20 to 24 inch Coho salmon in two to three hours on every trip am and pm for the last 7 days. We have also seen some very nice Adult King Salmon ranging from 12 lbs to over 32 lbs. Most of these Kings are still in Marine Areas 9 and 10 (Bainbridge Island, Kingston) where they must be released. Some Kings will make it into Marine Area 11 (Vashon Island area) which is open for the retention of two Kings per angler but don't expect the kind of consistent hot action in 11 that we are getting in Marine Areas 9 and 10 now.  Expect hot fishing for Coho to continue with some slower days and some ridiculously red hot days and for the fish to get larger as the true Ocean run of Coho make their way into the Sound in Late August all the way into early or mid October when they head up the rivers.

Rollercoaster of Silvers
Fishing for Silvers so far this year has been inconsistent with limits some days and half limits others and action ranging from decent to very good every trip. Look for a few nice Kings in a day of mostly resident Coho. This will change to mostly larger adult Coho salmon (Silvers) as time goes on. Catches closer to the Ocean indicate that large runs of mature ocean Coho salmon are on their way and should provide some hot action for people in August and September. The King run has also yet to peak and should be going good by the second week of August. This King was      released . Ouch! But catching plenty of Coho now that we can bring home.

Improvements in Area 10
Fishing has really picked up in Marine Area 10 as more King salmon continue to migrate into Puget Sound. Beginning July 1st we will be harvesting Coho Salmon and will still need to release Kings in this area 10 which is between Vashon and Whidbey Islands. There will still be some ops to harvest King Salmon in Area 11 to the south around Vashon Island and in Elliott Bay as soon as enough kings migrate into those areas in Late July. Expect the fishing to be about 4 to 5 times more active in Marine Area 10 where the Kings must be released.

Waiting for July
Ling Cod has closed and Salmon fishing in the early summer has started off slow. Being patient has paid off with a few nice late blackmouth like this one and the fishing has improved from very slow to slow to fair and even good if you are ok with fishing the catch & release area which has more fish. Until July 1st we can expect inconsistency in the catch and keep area (Area 11) with some good days and some slow days. Expect Larger fish to move into Puget Sound and fishing to get more consistently productive when Area 10  opens for keeping Coho salmon on July 1st.
