Bigger Fish
The Ling Cod fishing has stayed pretty consistent so far and the average size has actually gone up for us. Pictured are some of the fish from last trip that went 20 to 26 lbs. We are averaging 5 or 6 Ling Cod per trip for 4 people and 40 Flounder.

MO FISH
We are still getting some nice "Winter Blackmouth" (juvenile King Salmon) up at Possesion Bar and Pt no Pt.
Thurs we only landed 3 keepers, released about 12 under 22", and lost about 3 other decent fish that just came unbuttoned.
Friday We landed 3 keepers, released about 16 under 22", and lost 4 other decent fish to seals eating the fish while we tried to land them including one in the teens which we brought up only a large head.
Saturday March 19th we had 4 nice keepers by 10:30 am at Possesion and released around 16 fish under 22".
This Salmon fishery closes April 15th and will re-open July 1st for 2 Salmon with a June catch and release fishery for Salmon as well.
MAY 1st will open for Big, Ugly, Tasty, Hard fighting bottom fish we call Ling Cod. The average size of 15 lbs yeilds beautifull fillets and arm burning fights. The Ling Cod taste like a cross between Pacific Cod and Halibut. Ling Cod will close again June 16th.

Larger Fish Showing
Wow, The last few trips have produced some nicer sized fish (Chinook salmon) with close to half of the salmon retained going 9 to 12 lbs and we took a 13.5 lb fish last trip. The other half of the keepers were 5 to 6 lb fish which still go 24" and are also very nice fish. We are still releasing some smaller fish for added action but not nearly the kind of steady small fish action we saw in say November. Nearly half of the strikes were decent size fish while fishing Possesion Bar last week.
This is a good time for Marine Area 9 to pick up as Area 10 closed Feb 28th

Action, Action, Action!
There has been an incredible number of small Chinook Salmon around which looks good for the future. Expect allot of action from 10 to 22 inch salmon which are carefully released while continuing to target the larger keepers of the same species. A keeper salmon right now is a winter juvenile King Salmon we call Blackmouth that must be over 22". We are averaging 2 to 3 keepers a trip right now averaging 26" with a high number of fish just under the 22" size limit being released. Look for a good spring with some of these fish growing quickly to legal size.

Bigger Coho
Larger Coho have migrated in from the Ocean. A limit of 14 fish for 6 guys and the Guide at left. Nice fish up to 15 lbs at right. Catch these fish through Mid-Oct. Hard fighting Chum Salmon (Keta) are starting to show. Winter Blackmouth Salmon opens Nov 1st.

Kings and Cohos
This morning was very hot fishing for Coho salmon 4 to 7 lbs and a few nice Kings. We boated 20 Coho and 3 Kings by 10am and then returned to the dock. The action on some days has been slower than this but still good
fishing every morning and most afternoons. The larger Coho Salmon are just starting to show and will increase in numbers through September. The photo on the left was taken about two weeks ago so the Silvers (Coho Salmon) are already larger than in this photo and will continue to grow as well as the
larger fish migrating in from the ocean.

Ling Cod
The Ling Cod fishing has been very productive as expected. Yesterday we had a dozen Ling Cod landed ranging from 10 to 25 lbs and 28 to 39 inches in length and 35 flounder. Large Gray Whales have been visible on most trips this month right in the same area that we are fishing around south Whidbey Island. There have been a few Cabezon Caught averaging about 6 lbs to add to our limit of Ling Cod. The big ADULT KING SALMON and Coho start to show soon, August is peak for King Salmon and by September add lots of ADULT COHO SALMON and things are really getting crazy in the fertile inlet we call Puget Sound. ALL of these fish can be accessed directly from our Seattle departures. This photo on the right was taken by Jim Fabregas on May 2nd. I only wish I had more time take photos but when the bite is on I am working to keep my customers fishing!

Slow Coho
The Coho Fishing is slowing down and the size of the late run Coho increase as the final waves of fish work their way towards, into and up the rivers. Coho (Silver) up to 17 lbs are still being caught in the Saltwater though the average Coho is closer to 7 lbs. As usual the action for Winter Blackmouth (juvenile Chinook Salmon) is heating up with fish up to 12 lbs caught already as we look towards the November 1st opener for winter Blackmouth. Meanwhile we are still having some good days for nice sized Coho which we can keep 2 fish per person  and a few Chum which always put up a battle. On the slow days we can get some action from Chinook C&R.
